It's the LAST BLOCK!

CT MFB Block 20

Can you believe we’re all the way through the blocks for the My Favorite Color is Dakota sampler?  Weren’t we just cutting fabrics last week?  This month we’re sewing Block 20, which is the last block of the pattern and another large finish size at 27”.

Just because we’re through the blocks doesn’t mean you can’t still pick up the project!  My Favorite Color is Dakota patterns are available through your local quilt shop, and many are continuing to kit the project, or will be able to help you with your color selections!  We hope to have one more post in 2022 to share a few quilting ideas.  As soon as quilts come back from quilting, are bound and photographed, we'll share those.

Note: Pattern corrections are at the end of this post.

This block is pieced in the Trading Post Bella Solids colorway.

The Bellas used in this colorway are:  Espresso* (9900 280), Chocolate* (9900 41), Spice (9900 293), Amber* (9900 292), Cocoa* (9900 180), Tan* (9900 13), Latte* (9900 245), Eggshell* (9900 281), Lagoon (9900 270), and Mink (9900 430).  Fabrics used in this particular block have an *.

Being that it’s December, and working on this block while also thinking about everything that needs doing for the holidays—doesn’t it strike you that there’s something like a wreath in the shape?  Or maybe even a pile of big, happy ribbons.

With that in mind, I started playing around with some of our holiday fabrics rather than solids, to see what kind of wreath wall hanging we could make, and just loved the results!  A separate tutorial download is available here - My Favorite Color Wreath.

As it made sense to change the fabric needs just slightly for a simpler one-off project from your stash, or from the fat quarter selection at your local shop, a separate instruction sheet made sense.  This version of the block only needs 6 Fat Quarters for the top, plus a ¼-yard binding and approx. 1 yard for backing.  "My Favorite Wreath is Moda" perhaps?

This version picks up on the striking poinsettia prints in the line and a more farmhouse look with the black and white gingham, for a cheery poinsettia inspired wreath rather than the usual green.

The greens in this line are so lush, it’s what made us think of a wreath to begin with!

The watercolor prints in this line make for a more modern take on a Christmas green, red and aqua palette.

Traditional Christmas colors with all those beautiful low volume prints for background options—with the size of these pieces, all of the light prints work!

MFCIM Pattern Correction Notes:

  • For ALL blocks, the measurement given for Finished Size is the size once the block is sewn into the quilt (after taking out seam allowance).  A block with a finished size of 18”x18” will measure 18.5”x18.5” when the piecing is completed but is not yet sewn into the final quilt.
  • BLOCK 17: In the ‘Piecing’ section, the third block pairing reads correctly that you should use Fabric 1 & 6 to make HST.  However, the thumbnail image for the HST shows the incorrect fabrics, they should be the Green and Pink for Fabrics 1 and 6.  All of the cutting instructions are correct for the block.
  • BLOCK 18: In the ‘Piecing’ section, the thumbnail images for the block components are correct, but the fabrics listed for each are wrong.  The first thumbnail needs Fabric 1 & 9, and the second thumbnail need Fabric 8 & 1.  All of the cutting instructions are correct for the block.

We will continue to list any pattern corrections in these blog posts for your reference.
